What Is A Wireless Alarm System?
A wireless alarm system is probably one of the easiest of all burglar alarm systems to operate. In fact more and more people are now using these systems in their homes and businesses as there are not a lot of wires to install. Instead these security systems use radio waves to send signals from the sensors to the control panel in order to monitor the activity within the property.
All wireless systems use motion sensors as well as contacts on the doors and windows to inform us, the owners, of intruders who are either inside or close to the property. As with other forms of burglar alarm systems this one is controlled through the use of a keypad which will either arm or disarm the system and can be done so remotely.
The main components of a wireless system include the following:
Control Panel - This is the brains of the system and will be placed in a location where it can not be easily seen or found. Generally in a cupboard or the basement if the property has one. It receives the signals from the sensors which have been installed around the house and if any occurs that causes the sensors to be activated then the alarm will be sounded. Plus if the system is being monitored then a signal will be sent to the monitoring service informing them of the occurrence and that the alarm has been triggered. Keypad - This is where you key in the code in order to arm or disarm the system. It is usually located in a place close to the main entrance of the property. Magnetic Contacts - These are simply switches which have been placed close to a magnet that is able to measure the distance between them. These will be installed on windows and doors and if a door or window opens once the system has been armed, then this triggers the alarm to sound. Or a signal can be sent to the monitoring service informing them of the situation. Contact Sensors - These are much more sophisticated than the above mentioned detectors and use passive infrared light. It is the light in this type of wireless alarm system which will detect any motion in the room or the heat of a person's body as it affects the room. These types of detectors are often only armed when no one is present in the property and can be designed to avoid triggering the alarm if the owners have pets within the property. So as soon as contact sensor detects either motion or body heat within a particular part of the property then the alarm will be sounded.
