How To Use Window Burglar Alarms

The great thing about window burglar alarms is they will prevent someone from entering as well as leaving your home through the windows. These window burglar alarms work through a contact system where one is attached on either side of the window and its frame. As soon as the connection is broken, the alarm will be set off.

Generally these window contacts use magnets to help detect whether the connection is in place or not. You can either install such a system yourself or pay a qualified home security contractor to do it for you.

As already mentioned the contacts for a window burglar alarm system will have a magnet mounted to the window frame while a piece of metal is mounted on the window sill and these 2 devices form an electrical circuit. While the window is closed, the magnetic field will close the circuit between the 2 contacts. This tells the alarm panel that everything is okay. However if a window should be opened while the alarm is set, then the contact will be broken and the alarm will be triggered. Once the alarm has been triggered the control panel will then sound the alarm either through setting off the bells outside your home or through contacting a monitoring center down the phone line.

When it comes to installing window burglar alarms in your home, you do not need to fit the contacts on all windows. Rather it is the actual location of each window within the home and what your personal requirements are that will decide the location of each window contact. Below are some areas where you should consider placing window contacts.

1. Windows that are hidden by hedges, trees or bushes. 2. Windows that are in dark areas of the property such as behind a wall or gate. 3. Place the contacts on windows at the back of your homes where your neighbors can not see easily from their own home. 4. Place contacts on your children's windows. This way you know that they are safe while in the home and know when they have left it without telling you. Might come in handy with an unruly teenager testing your authority limits.

Today most good quality window burglar alarms will come with 2 to 3 sets of contacts for your windows. But if you want, many companies will allow you purchase more in order to provide a good level of security that you feel your home needs.
