How Burglar Alarms Work In Your Home

Many people are having burglar alarms installed in order to protect not just their property but their families against unwanted intruders. For many, the first thing they need to learn is how burglar alarms work in order to ensure that they have the right system for their property.

The most common form of burglar alarm being used today is known as the circuit alarm. This comes in two different models known as closed and open circuits.

Although two different systems the concepts that they use are basically the same. With each of these systems, a person runs an electrical circuit through either a door or window. However in the open circuit system, the electrical current is not completed until either the door or window is opened and this then triggers an alarm. But the only problem with this type of system is that the intruder can easily get round this by cutting the wires in order to prevent the actual electrical circuit from being completed.

Meanwhile within a closed circuit system the electrical current is only completed when either the window or door is closed. But as soon as they are opened then the circuit will be broken and the alarm will be triggered.

With both of these systems you will have a control box which monitors all the circuits that have been installed within the property. It is the control box which will keep sounding the alarm until the system has been reset using a predetermined code. Generally the control box will have been placed in a location where it can not be easily found by any intruder if they are able to gain entry to your property and thereby deactivate it.

However if an intruder is able to gain entry to your property, then you will need to have other forms of burglar alarm equipment within the home such as motion detectors. A motion detector works by monitoring on a continuous basis through the use of irregular wave patterns. However as soon as these patterns change, such as when a presence is detected within a room, they will then trigger the alarm to either sound or send a signal through to the alarm monitoring service.

Hopefully the information we have provided to you above on how burglar alarms work will provide you with a better understanding and so help you to make a more informed decision on what is the best type of security system to have installed in your property.
