Burglar Alarm DIY - 6 Tips

Whenever you are installing a wireless burglar alarm DIY system in to your home, it is important that you read all the instructions provided to you by the manufacturer. But below we also provide you with a number of useful tips which will ensure that when it comes to installing your own burglar alarm you do it successfully.

Tip 1

Before you mount any of the devices into their proposed locations, first check both signal strength and background noise levels. If you find that the signal strength for a certain location is not adequate, then always carry out a few tests as this will then help you to see if the signal is actually being received by the control panel or not.

Tip 2

Do not mount any transmitters or receivers on metal or metal doors or windows which are clad in UPVC. Unfortunately this could interfere with the signals that are being sent out by the devices that you place here to your systems control panel.

Tip 3

The best way to ensure that you have the most radio range with regards to your receiver aerials is if they are all mounted vertically. However there are some wireless systems where the aerials are mounted both horizontally and vertically so you can ignore this.

Tip 4

If you should have to run any wiring to a transmitter or receiver then make sure it is kept away from the aerial(s) as any metal near it will actually reduce the aerials performance.

Tip 5

Never ever alter or replace the aerial's inside the transmitters or receivers with one that has not been approved by the manufacturer of the system. All the aerials in each model of wireless burglar alarms are tuned to a specific frequency so actually altering or changing them will affect the operation of the frequency and thus impair the performance of the aerial.

Tip 6

If you can, do not mount either the receiver or its aerial close to electrical equipment such as TV's or computers as they will often cause background noise which can inhibit the performance of your system. Also avoid any large metal objects as well wherever possible as this can prevent signals getting from the transmitter and through to the systems control panel.

There are plenty of other steps which should be followed in order to ensure that when it comes to installing a wireless burglar alarm DIY system you do everything correctly. Above we have provided some of the more important ones that need to be remembered.
