Testing Your Burglar Alarm Battery

You have a burglar alarm system installed to ensure that your possessions and family are kept safe. However once it is installed all the components, especially the burglar alarm battery, will need to be regularly checked and maintained. It is therefore vital that you carry out a test of the system at least once a month, but ensure that you carry out the right procedure or else it could end up costing you money. Certainly the company which installed your system should have showed you the correct procedure for testing the system.

Below we take you through the steps you should be following in order to test your burglar alarm system properly.

Step 1 You should read the manual and this will help to prevent false alarms for occurring.

Step 2 Look at the index or the table of contents and this will then provide you with the manufacturers recommendations on how to test the burglar alarm. It is important that you read this section of the manual several times so you know exactly what you should be doing.

Step 3 Be aware of how to disarm the alarm and always keep both the disarming codes or key close at hand (but not right by your alarm control panel). Also have someone else with you when testing the alarm and who knows the codes off by heart also.

Step 4 If your system has been installed by a company such as ADT then call them, especially if you are in doubt as to what to do. They will then walk you through the entire process and will be aware of what is happening should anything go wrong.

Step 5 Do not forget to mention to everyone else in the house what is happening.

Step 6 You now need to make sure that all doors and windows which are protected by the system are closed before you move on to the next step.

Step 7 Now everything is ready you run the test operation on your system. So all you need to do now is punch in the code which will activate the test scenario for your system.

Step 8 Once the test has been completed of the whole system you must now disarm the test operation. If any errors occur during the testing phase you will be immediately informed of any problems and your monitoring center may also be informed of them.

When it comes to the burglar alarm battery, a regular testing of the system will ensure that this is not causing any problems. However a lot of systems today will also inform you if there is a problem with the back up battery to your system as well.
